The BYD Dolphin has officially surpassed one million cumulative sales, becoming the fastest A0-segment electric hatchback in China to reach this achievement.

First launched in August 2021 as the debut model in BYD’s Ocean series, the Dolphin has quickly grown into a core product for the brand’s EV expansion both domestically and internationally.

Built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, the Dolphin offers compact proportions suited for city use, with body dimensions around 4.1 meters in length, 1.77 meters in width, and 1.57 meters in height, along with a 2.7-meter wheelbase.

In the Chinese market, customers can choose between two powertrain options. The entry variant features a permanent-magnet motor producing roughly 94 hp and 180 Nm paired with a 45 kWh LFP Blade battery, delivering up to 420 km of range.

The higher-spec model upgrades to 201 hp and 310 Nm with a 60.5 kWh pack, extending range to around 520 km. Fast charging from 30 to 80 percent takes about half an hour, depending on battery capacity.

Inside, the Dolphin provides a digital cockpit that includes a 5-inch instrument cluster and either a 10.1-inch or 12.8-inch touchscreen, depending on trim level, running BYD’s DiLink operating system.

Top variants add conveniences such as 50W wireless phone charging, while safety and driver assistance are covered by multiple DiPilot features, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure assistance, and automatic emergency braking.

The Dolphin is also a major contributor to BYD’s rising global volume. It sold nearly 31,000 units in November alone and accounted for more than five percent of BYD’s total sales from January to November.

The model joins the Atto 3 and Seagull as one of BYD’s few vehicles to cross the one-million-sales threshold, underlining the company’s rapid growth in the affordable EV segment.
